The basics of water damage restoration
Written by Movincool
Whether its from flooding due to a storm or broken pipes, it is important to act quickly. The longer the standing water is allowed to remain, the higher the damages and the harder it will be to restore. People who act quickly will have a higher chance of getting everything back in pristine condition. Here are five basic steps of water damage restoration:
Call a company
The first step is to find and call a professional outfit that undertakes water damage restoration. At the same time call your insurance agent if the home is covered for flooding and/or water damage.
Assessment
Once the contractors arrive, they will do a thorough assessment of the situation and come up with a plan to remove the water and dry the remaining items. For areas that cannot be seen, you will need to provide details of items and equipment.
Water removal
The first step of the cleanup involves pumping out as much of the excess water as possible. High speed pumps are used to get the water out followed by vacuuming to remove any standing water.
Drying and dehumidifying
Getting to this stage fast is important. When there is flooding a lot of water will still be retained in the walls, floors etc. The sooner this is removed the higher the chances of avoiding warping and long term damage. Sometimes they will portable air conditioners to assist with this work.
Cleaning
The restoration team will then move to the cleaning phase and make sure that there is no chance of mold or fungal growth due to the moisture. The house will be a clean and healthy place to live again.
